Enabling transparency
Transparency is supported with just a few edits: Delete the background in the Background layer, rotate to the corner, and crop. You can create transparency by embedding a colored background in the original image.
Creating a new background
To create transparency on a new background, start with a new layer in your image and name it Background. You can do so by selecting Layer⇒New⇒Background. Figure 1-3 shows the new layer and its name of Background.

You have a couple options for now:
Leave the colors of the background as-is. This method gives you the most flexibility. Simply follow the steps in the “Applying Transparency to an Existing Background” section, later in this chapter.
Duplicate the Background layer. This way, you save the original Background layer and you also create a duplicate layer that you can use for transparency. To do this, choose Layer⇒Duplicate Layer and then follow the steps in the “Applying Transparency to an Existing Background” section, later in this chapter.
Both layers have their own layer modes, and they can affect each other. For example, if you select the Background layer and convert it to Soft Light or Hard Light, the other layer converts to the same light color. You can experiment with the layer modes until you find the one that works for you.
Merging layers
You can merge the Background layer and the layer with your photo to create a new layer that functions as the background. For example, you could use your photo as a background and merge your photo layer with the Background layer. Figure 1-4 shows the merge options.

When you merge the layers, you have two choices:
Both layers can be unaffected; for example, both the Background and the merged layer can be colored according to the Background. The background on a merged layer is always white.

NodeJS rewrite middleware not working properly?
I have created a simple nodeJS application, here is my code:

Now this is how I start my application with node app.js
It does go through the console.log(‘hi’); however I’ve also created a checker and made sure that I never call the res object in the middleware, so I would have expected the request going through and coming back as an empty object?
Am I missing something or it’s simply not working?

Express is only adding a request handler to the request when it encounters a matching middleware. In this case, your app.use middleware contains a’req, res, next’. When Express sees a request with a path that does not match, no middleware is matched. That is why you are seeing just the console message, but no return to the browser.
To fix it, remove the req and res variables from within the app.use middleware. It should read:
