EdIt! uses a word processing interface, allowing you to open multiple files and groups of files, with support for wildcards. It provides word wrap capability so you can simply press the left mouse button to wrap to the next line. Typing a word is as easy as a short cut, with navigation buttons. Once a new file has been opened, you can perform many operations simply by pointing to the desired text. EdIt! also has a programmable autoindent mode that will reformat your document to fit into line length and tab stop settings you specify.
EdIt! is built on a Turbo Pascal-based GUI, but does not require QBASIC.EXE to run.
That means you do not have to juggle many different versions of QBASIC.EXE and avoid file corruption when you need to load a bigger file than the copy of QBASIC you have available! EdIt! is designed for quick file updates and is light on system resources so you can open a file with 400 lines of text before a slight pause begins.
The wordwrap feature is especially useful with long documents. Once you have typed in a paragraph, simply press the left mouse button to wrap to the next line. EdIt! supports multiple tabs, so you can fit multiple files into a single screen. Just press the left mouse button to move the cursor to the next line — press the left mouse button again to move back to the previous line.
