Many photographers that I know use Photoshop for their editing as well as their shooting.
You can find tutorials and additional images for free on the web by looking up tutorials by searching for Photoshop ( _tutorial_ and _photoshop_ ) or Photoshop ( _tutorial_ and _photoshop_ and your search terms). Many are organized by program and date.
# Visualizing Photoshop Layers
Photoshop layers hold the color and other image data used to create a final image. You can add multiple layers to the same image, and you can change any of the layers at any time without affecting the others.
Photoshop layers are stored on a computer hard drive in a folder for each layer on the computer. As you create new layers and add them to existing layers, the folder for those layers grows and accumulates. You might find that you have 10 layers in the folder where the image is saved and 20 layers in the folder for other images. You can move individual layers among folders and make changes to a layer from any of the others.
Think of the layers as groups of characteristics that you want to apply to your image. As you manipulate the layers in the Photoshop window, Photoshop maintains a model of what your image should look like based on the layers you’ve applied. You can add and subtract the layers to create new layers that contain the characteristics of your original layers plus new ones.
You can create layers in the following ways:
* **Clipping path:** This is a layer that’s created by tracing over, or drawing, an object with a path. It’s stored in a folder called _Clip_ by default.
* **Vector (shape):** A vector layer is also called an _vector object_ ( _vector fill_ or _vector stroke_ ). This type of layer contains the shape you want to draw in the image.
* **Drawing (raster):** A raster layer is also called a _raster object_ (a raster _fill_ or raster _stroke_ ). This layer stores the shape you want to draw in the image. The Draw commands in the drawing tools create raster layers.
* **Layers:** Any of the three types of layers can be _layers_ in the Layer palette. (All layers in the Layer palette are layers, but not all layers are listed in the Layer palette.) Layers include vector-based layers, drawing-based layers, and

While Photoshop has always been a popular workhorse, what was once considered the de facto graphics editor is facing more competition than ever before. In the past decade, the iPad introduced graphic design tools and iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad added more image editing capabilities to their cameras, making more features available to the masses.
Adobe Photoshop is a well-recognized name, and many photographers and graphic designers rely on it solely for their image editing needs. But the competition from Elements has begun to make these tools all the more important for editors on a budget.
Why Photoshop Elements?
Elements is an Adobe Photoshop alternative that many professional photographers use for editing photos. It’s free, comes with a huge amount of content, and allows you to make your own edits.
Although Photoshop gives you more options when editing images, Elements comes with a friendly user interface that is an absolute breeze to work with. Some of the best features of Photoshop come from the older versions, so Elements has more familiar tools and functionality that are easy to learn and use.
On top of that, Elements allows you to save your work to the cloud to keep your photos safe and accessible, both online and off.
You can save your files to the cloud with some of the newer versions of Photoshop, but it won’t give you a full advantage in the editing process. If you’re unsure about using Photoshop or want to backup your photo before editing, Elements’ cloud service makes editing images a lot easier.
Plus, Elements is a much lighter program, so editing and transferring images can both be faster than using the professional version.
How to Use Photoshop Elements
To start editing, open up Photoshop Elements in a web browser and then open your image or a folder of images. You can also download images directly from your iPhone’s camera roll.
Once you open your image, you’ll notice that all of the editing tools are in one simple location. Let’s look at some of the options you have on the workspace.
At the top left of the workspace, you’ll see the File menu. It has many options, including the following:
Open: Load an image from a folder or from the camera roll.
Save: Save the current image as a new image file.
Exit: Open Photoshop Elements. If you have other applications running, you’ll need to close

Use of a single-layer 3-dimentional polyacrylamide gel to enhance 1-D gel protein separations in capillary electrophoresis.
A single-layer 3-dimensional polyacrylamide gel (3D-PAG) was prepared and used as a polymer gel in capillary electrophoresis (CE) to enhance 1-D protein separations in CE. The inclusion of 3D-PAG significantly increased the protein separation factor and resolution, thereby enhancing the protein identification capability. The influence of the 3D-PAG on the electroosmotic flow (EOF) in CE was also studied in this report. The EOF velocity was reduced significantly when the PAG layer was deposited between the separation capillary and the buffer reservoir. The change of EOF velocity also resulted in a broad separation buffer range and an apparent electrophoretic property of the 3D-PAG. The 3D-PAG gel also enhanced the DNA separation and detection of the single-stranded DNA compared with the polyacrylamide gels reported before.Kinetics of lung vascular permeability. Effect of endotoxin.
Permeability of the blood-gas barrier was studied in rats subjected to endotoxemia (9 mg/kg of lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli O127:B8). The specific markers of capillary permeability were transfer of BSA and Evans blue from the vascular bed to the vascular lumen and the absolute content of lung WBC (10(6)/kg) in circulation. The permeability to BSA was measured by monitoring the passage of circulating radiolabeled BSA from the vascular compartment into the lung, and the data were analyzed by a kinetic model of plasma BSA in a two-compartment system. A reduction in the transfer of BSA from vascular to extravascular compartment was found to increase with time, with the decrease being rapid after 5 h of endotoxemia. The study of permeability to Evans blue in the lung by means of intravenous infusion of dye, and of the association of lung WBC in the circulation with the permeability of the blood-gas barrier, showed that (a) the endotoxin induced a reduction in the association rate of WBC with the microvasculature and (b) the permeability of the barrier was increased at 2 and 4 h after endotoxin, but was reduced by 6 h. The findings show that endotoxemia induces an

The Liquify filter lets you do quick and dirty changes to an image without having to destroy an area of the photo.
The Pen tool allows you to do quick vector drawings to use in place of raster
The Gradient tool lets you create smooth, linear color transitions between two areas.
The Dodge and Burn tools can create contrast between an image and a foreground or background.
The Gradient tool lets you create smooth, linear color transitions between two areas.
The Dodge tool can brighten or darken an image.
The Smudge tool smoothes the edges of an image. You can also use the Eraser tool to either soften or harden the edges of an image.
The Heal tool can make an image look more natural by healing the edges that have been smoothed over by the Blur tool.
The Cookie tool is useful for creating highly stylized effects.
Select and Create a Brush
You can access Photoshop’s Brush tool through the Brush palette (Cmd+Alt+B) located on the toolbar. By default, Photoshop stores 16 different brushes at one time. You can access a brush at any time by clicking on the Brush panel on the Brush palette. You can also create new brushes by clicking the Brush palette and choosing “Create Brush.”
Brushes are stored in different categories such as no brush, texture, complicated and so on.
Brushes in each category can be accessed by opening the Brush palette and selecting the category. You can change a brush’s settings by clicking on the down arrow next to the brush name and then selecting a setting.
When you are creating a new brush, you will notice there are two different brush types in the Brush palette. The first type is called a default brush. The default brush is used for fast and easy drawing. The second type is called a texture brush. The texture brush can be used to mimic the look of a rubber, vinyl, or plastic surface. You can select a brush from the Brush palette by clicking on the brush name and then pressing the down arrow key. Or you can click the brush name to select a brush.
A brush’s size is set by two ways. The first is by clicking in the “Size” box located next to the brush name and changing the number. The second is by clicking the down arrow button located next to the brush name, then selecting a size from the drop-down menu.
The brush color is set by clicking the small plus sign at the right end of the brush name and clicking in the
